Aims of Study: To equip the students with different forms of Eschatology and their development from the OT up to the present Century. This will prepare them to appreciate the Christian Meaning of Death, the belief and teaching about the Resurrection of the Dead, Last Judgement, Heaven, Hell and Purgatory. In the course of this the students will be invited to examine the meaning of death in their cultures and how cultural beliefs can help them in their Christian understanding of Death and Life after Death. Book one of the Code of Canon law is entitled “General Norms”. It defines the persons, offices, powers, legal instruments and acts that make up the Church’s canonical system. It is the list of definitions that precedes a statute in modern civil law. These general norms are the building blocks used in the rest of the canonical structure and are basic elements of the Church’s ruling and power of governance (potestas regiminis). Book four of the code of canon law is entitled “The office of sanctifying in the church”. Part one is on “sacraments” and treats the seven sacraments. Our course will only treat six sacraments and part three of book four which is about sacred places and times. Part three of this course will be taken from Book Two of the code of canon law which is entitled “the people of God”, part II: “particular churches and their groupings”. Upon the completion of this course: the law on sacraments, liturgy, particular churches and Bishops, the students should be able to have greater knowledge of the following:
